Yeast Roll Recipe

This is our yeast roll recipe that my Mom has made for years. I make them now for all of our holiday dinners. They are so easy and you make them up the day before and put in the refrigerator over night.

1 package dry yeast
1/4 cup warm water
1 cup milk, scalded
1/2 cup shortening ( butter)
1/2 cup sugar
4 1/2 cups Flour
1 teaspoon salt
3 eggs, slightly beaten and room temperture

Prepare yeast by adding to water until it starts to work.
Heat milk and add sugar, butter, salt
cool to about baby bottle temperature
Add eggs, yeast, flour (1 cup at a time)
Mix completely and cover. Let rise until double, punch down and put in refrigerator overnight.
Three or four hours before you are ready to bake, take the dough out, add just enough flour so you can handle it.
Pinch out and place in greased pan, put 1/2 pat of butter on each one and let raise until doubled. (Usually 3 to 4 hours)
Sometimes I turn the oven on for 1 minute, turn it off and set the rolls in the oven. I especially do this when it is cold outside or I am in a hurry for them to rise.
Bake at 400 for about 15 minutes

Birthday Card for a Special Friend

This birthday card is for a good friend of mine who has been having cancer treatments for several months. I wanted it to be bright and cheerful.

I used Martha Stewart's Heart Lace Border Punch, Spellbinders Fancy Tag, Labels 9 (from Joan's Gardens) and a stamp that I bought at a stamp show because I loved it so much. I have added a bow using May Arts silk ribbon. I tied the pretty bow with the Bow Easy tha I purchased from Sharon Johnson. The edges were sponged before I took the stamped image out of the Nesties on both the tag and the hats. That sure changes the appearance. A pretty glitzy rhinestone was added for more interest.

My computer had to go to the hospital yesterday (my power supply died) so I was not able to ship any orders and today is a holiday and there is no mail. But, rest assured if you placed an order in the last couple of days it will ship tomorrow.

I am doing a craft show at the Newton Center in Lakeville, Indiana this weekend, so you probably won't be hearing from me. If you live in the area and can attend, be sure to look me up. I will be in the Library room.

65# Cardstock

If you own any of the Pendants from Spellbinders or any detail dies, you will have much better success using cardstock that is a #65 pound weight. After struggling trying to get a perfect cut with the Fleur De Lis Pendant, I called Spellbinders and was told that the dies won't work well in heavier paper.

So, I decided we all need this paper and I am now adding it to my line.

Also another tip is to use wax paper between the paper and the die and the paper will be much easier to remove from the die.

Tack'N Peel

Tsukineko Tack N Peel Cling Sheet

When Darlene was here a couple weeks ago, she told me about this wonderful product called Tack'N Peel.
Here is what Darlene has to say about it:

"Two years ago I was introduced to Tack 'n Peel and instantly knew it was just the product I was looking for. After receiving several "unmounted" images to use in conjunction with Design Team responsibilities, I needed a quick way to be able to reuse these images over and over. Tack 'n Peel was the answer. Since the images received were of various sizes ... I attached the Tack 'n Peel on one side of various sized acrylic blocks and have used them over & over & over. When they start getting dirty and less tackie, I simply run them under water and rub with my finger and let air dry. They come back to "just like new". "

Tack ’n Peel's reusable clear sheet is designed to use with your unmounted rubber stamps. You can use it over and over again and it can be cleaned with clear lukewarm water.

The sheet is a 4x6.5 and will cover 1 large clear acrylic block or several small ones. You use it only on unmounted rubber stamps. I would recommend not using it on the clear acrylic as they might tear.

The Tack'n Peel does have a slight cushion to it, but I always recommend stamping on a piece of foam, such as the Ornare Foam Pad shown under the Ornare category.

Trace and cut a sheet to fit a clear stamp block and you can use it on any of our unmounted rubber stamps.
When finished stamping, the Tack'n Peel blocks can be stored and used again. Make sure you put on the clear plastic to cover your block when you are finished.

Taco Soup - & a reminder

I am sharing one of our favorite soups. We like it even better than chilli !

JOAN'S TACO SOUP

1 pound ground beef, browned & drained (1 to 1)
½ C. chopped onion
2 cans tomatoes, canned (I use my home canned tomatoes, so 2-28 oz cans)
1 can tomato paste (8 oz.)
2 cans kidney beans with juice
1 package corn frozen
1 pkg. taco seasoning
2 cups water
1/2 cup brown sugar
1 teaspoon salt (maybe more...salt to taste)

Place all ingredients in a soup pot or large kettle, bring to boil, then simmer on low about 15-20 minutes. Serve with crushed taco chips and shredded cheddar cheese and a dollop of sour cream if desired. Also works great in a crock pot.
